Adapt elements – basics of architecture

The studio project focused on the adaptation of architectural functions, types, and forms across different scales and contexts.

task 1 – analysis
In the first assignment, selected architectural elements were analyzed with reference to Rem Koolhaas’s book Elements, and examined within both buildings of the Faculty of Architecture as well as in the urban environment. This phase also included the study of architectural sketching as a tool for designing changes and adaptations of the observed elements.

task 2 – individual design
In the second assignment, the acquired knowledge was applied in individual projects that reflected and adapted the selected elements. Work with the elements took place on both pragmatic and abstract levels. During this phase, the architectural working model was explored as a key design tool.

task 3 – collective design
The final assignment took the form of a collaborative project, in which all adapted elements were integrated into a jointly designed tower and further transformed or completely redefined. In this phase, a shared frame of the tower was developed, into which individual proposals were inserted, while shared spaces were addressed within this frame. The outcome of this phase was a large-scale collective model.
